Item Description

Gamsberg Mountain is the third highest peak in Namibia, and there have been small discoveries of "Alpine-type" kleft deposits which are quite reminiscent to the Austrian Alps of Europe. In fact the Titanite, Rutile and Epidotes from this area are very similar to their European cousins. With that said, material is quite scarce from Gamsberg, mostly because the majority of the land is privately owned by farmers, so collecting is not often allowed anywhere. This piece is a gorgeous, three-dimensional display quality miniature featuring several very sharp, lustrous, GEMMY, colorless prismatic Quartz crystals measuring up to 3.3 cm long which are included with brilliant olive-oil green colored prisms of Epidote. The main Quartz crystal is actually doubly-terminated, and while it has some etching on the terminations (and a small ding on one end), it's still in good shape, and sits beautifully atop the underlying Quartz crystal matrix. The underside of the piece shows tiny crystallized Calcites, so the specimen is nearly crystallized all the way around. A very attractive specimen of a material that is incredibly hard to find on the market. A great piece for any fan of Quartz or inclusion minerals. Priced at $400. From the Collection of Shields Flynn.
