Item Description

An outstanding, pristine, old-time 360-degree compound twinned epidote crystal from famed Prince of Wales Island, one of the world's great epidote localities. This exquisite piece has high lustre and an interesting modified chisel termination. Most of the piece is a very dark olive-green, but bright light reveals numerous patches of light olive-green translucence and the well-defined striations on the some of the faces. The little spray of quartz points at the base is a nice accent. This exceptional old-timer comes with a Hugh Ford label dating from from 1946-57. Sulzer was the name of the extinct mining camp for the Copper Mountain Mining District (copper), active from 1902-23. The piece is probably from famous Green Monster Mountain and was collected by renowned field collectors and dealers, Ed Over and Art Montgomery, in a 1935 expedition.
