Item Description

This historic old extinct tin-tungsten mine, closed in 1990, is the Type Locality for Fluorapatite. A 1.3 cm, stout, tabular textbook hexagonal crystal is jauntily set on the sculptural greisen matrix nicely accented with brassy pyritohedron sections and scattered tiny quartz points. The lovely zoned lilac crystal has a striking gemmy interior surrounded by lustrous, lighter colored translucent outer rind. Lilac-pink apatite fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7170 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the 1974 Tucson Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Classic Sauberg Mine apatite from the Type Locality!
