Item Description

This is a truly classic english Flourite plate from the famous Blackdene Mine that closed in 1987, and rather large as well. These Flourites are coveted by collectors not only for the beautiful gemmy purple cubes and interpenetration twins but also due to their intense and superb fluorescence. This uncommon matrix piece has a dense covering of sharp interpenetration twins and individual cubes with the largest cube at 2.9 x 2.6 cm (lower front purple and white mottled cube). The majority of the Fluorites are transparent to translucent with a glassy luster and violet to purple color. The Fluorites are in good condition with only slight chipping on a couple of edges and corners. There is one area on the piece in the back right that crystals are missing and could probably be trimmed out. The piece exhibits a late stage clear Fluorite that coats a few of the cubes on the right side and underneath on the matrix. The plate has a vivid fluorescence under both short and long wave. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl. Plates of this size and quality for glassy crystals are super rare.
