Item Description

A wonderful small cabinet sized display quality specimen of this contemporary classic material featuring many good quality, translucent cubes of purple colored Fluorite from recent mining at the Greenlaws Mine in Weardale. The largest Fluorite measures 3.0 cm on edge. The majority of the crystals feature very attractive, characteristic, white "snowflake"-esque or "spider web"-like inclusions creating what I would call an almost ethereal quality. I can say that these interesting inclusions are comparable to the similar effect seen when ice forms on the windshield of a car. NO major damage that I can find anywhere on the display side of the piece. The reverse side of the specimen is actually not broken, as it's re-crystallized, so the piece is "complete" nearly all the way around. Additionally the piece glows under SW UV light, which is often seen in these crystals. A very attractive and eye-catching specimen of this classic contemporary material. Valued at $850 in the inventory. This mine was active from 1850-1884, but was reopened in 2010 with the purpose of collecting Fluorite specimens and studying the deposits around Weardale.
