Item Description
A striking, colorful and sculptural large combination from this very obscure Chihuahua mine. Frosted, densely stepped-growth, colorless, translucent, fluorite cuboctahedrons are dramatically peppered on all sides of the strikingly contrasting orange iron oxide-tinted flattened calcite rhomb matrix. Mineral specimens are very uncommon from this large complex of mines at Santa Barbara and specimens from the Tecolotes (Owl) Mine are EXTREMELY RARE. I showed photos of this highly unusual combination to well-known Mexico specialist, Dr. Peter Megaw, who confirmed the locality. Bright blue fluorite fluorescence. The calcite on this particular piece does not fluoresce, due to the iron oxides. Valued by the former dealer at $450.
