Item Description

Some of the most well-known Fluorites from the United States are the multi-color beauties from Southern Illinois. They used to be all over the market, and honestly were not nearly as sought after as they are today. Now the entire area is closed down and nothing has come out for many years, so these pieces are highly sought after. This is great showy cabinet display specimen of this classic material featuring sharp, lustrous, translucent golden colored cubes with a slight purple color zoning on the outer edge of the crystals. Small metallic golden Chalcopyrite crystals can be seen frozen inside the Fluorite, and the back / top of the piece is coated with hundreds of small jewel-like Calcite crystals. This piece is in excellent condition on the display side and the only real damage is on the base where it was removed from the pocket wall. The largest Fluorite measures a whopping 9.5 (!) cm on edge. Very attractive, and the impressive size of the main Fluorite crystal makes it a very desirable specimen for any Fluorite collector of a fan of southern Illinois material. Ex Ross Lillie collection. Valued at $1850.
