Fluorite on Fluorite (iridescent) in pockets

A large matrix of hard Ohio limestone featuring pockets in the side of gloriously scintillating iridescent fluorite, for which this location is justifiably famous! The best combinations from here feature these amazing deep grape-jelly purple fluorites perched on iridescent honey-colored fluorite, as you see here. The largest purple crystal is 1.7 cm. The fact that we have two pockets preserved here is really unusual, and beautiful. It tells a story about how they form. These are Ohio classics, seldom seen in large size. I can actually attest to this, because I used to collect there myself as a teenager in the 1980s. It is HARD rock to break, and pockets are very few and far between. Fran had always wanted one of them (in his size) and chased collections in Ohio for years, until he got a piece like this large enough to fit his collection display in his office. I recall he told me that he found it by tracking down an old collector near Cleveland he had found through a newspaper ad. He bought two huge rocks, the size of basketballs, and had them trimmed down to this size. This is one of those two specimens. We guessed that they had been collected in the 1980s, but in any case it was some time ago. I recall getting these huge rocks from Fran and telling him he was going to pay more to ship them around the country and trim them, than he had paid to buy them at the time ! In any case, he was right about it, and it trimmed out to a gorgeous specimen, which you see here. Valued $2000-2500. Approx 1.5 kilos
