Item Description

A wonderful cabinet sized display specimen from the famous Yaogangxian Mine, one of the premier specimen producing localities in China. Several razor-sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, cubic crystals of Fluorite measuring up to 1.5 cm on edge with distinct purple and green "phantom" zoning sitting on a slightly curved prismatic Quartz crystal. All of the Fluorites are in very good condition overall, with only a tiny bit of edge wear. Fine quality all around, and a nice showy display specimen of this now classic material. Valued in the inventory at $900. Ex Dr. Stephen Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
