Item Description

This is the ONLY specimen of Fluorite that we've ever seen from this obscure locality in Alaska. The piece is labeled as coming from the Hound Island Breccia, not to be confused with the actual Hound Island locality, as the label states the piece was found on Kuiu Island, which lies in the Alexander Archipelago between Kupreanof Island to the east, and Baranof Island to the west. The piece was personally collected by Dr. Jeffrey Taylor on Labor Day weekend of 1996, and George bought it directly from Dr. Taylor. Certainly, if you collect Fluorites or minerals of Alaska, this is a must-have, as you may never see another of its kind. Several sharp, translucent, soft green colored, frosted cubic crystals of Fluorite are sitting on matrix. Most of the Fluorites are undamaged, though there is a bit of roughness around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Overall, it's actually a pretty impressive Fluorite for Alaska, especially considering it's a full cabinet-sized display specimen.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 5519; 9.2.1 AK.1. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
