Item Description

The intergrown stepped-growth fluorite cubes with satin lustre faces on this impressive large old-time combination appear to be very dark purple to nearly black under normal lighting, BUT back or bright lighting reveals beautiful violet translucence with nifty subtle edge phantoms. The dominating large cube is 4.5. x 3.8 cm and the cubes in the interior are essentially pristine. The matrix of sparkly drusy quartz with scattered small galena cubes and sphalerite crystals on the periphery are fine accessories. Purple fluorescence. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 2001. According to Chet's catalogue, the piece was in the B.E. Clement Collection and was formerly in the Dr. Eugene Sensel Collection. Sensel purchased the piece for $4.00 in 1964. A classic, rich large old-time fluorite combination from an unknown Cave-in-Rock mine.
