Item Description

The Pikes Peak Batholith in central Colorado has produced some of the finest specimens of Amazonite and Smoky Quartz in the world. Occasionally, crystals of Fluorite are found in the various pegmatites which span over a few counties, but they are certainly uncommon. This piece is a rarely seen specimen of almost 100% pure Fluorite featuring purple / lilac colored crystals measuring up to 2.1 cm with predominantly cubic faces and slight dodecahedral modifications on the edges. The reverse side of the specimen features a few small partial crystals of beautiful blue-green Amazonite, a sure sign of its origin, and a rare association, as we typically do not see actual Amazonite with Fluorite, but rather just plain white Microcline. The piece is in good shape, though a few areas have incomplete / interrupted growth. A nice miniature sized specimen of this elusive material with a great association. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9746). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
