Item Description

Here we have a remarkable specimen featuring scattered aggregates of tightly intergrown cubes of gorgeous purple Fluorite which fluoresce green (!) on druses of white Calcite associated with highly lustrous, silvery, cubo-octahedral Galena crystals. The Calcite fluoresces a lovely pink hue under SW UV light, and there is also a blue-white fluorescence from an unknown mineral (thought possibly to be Hydrozincite according to Chet's collection catalogue). Small amounts of Quartz, Sphalerite and Pyrite can be seen on the specimen as well. The fantastic fluorescence of the piece is what really matters here, and to have a near large cabinet sized display specimen on top of it all makes it all the more enticing. Valued at $800. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #18357CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
