Item Description

A wonderful miniature sized display quality specimen from the Septemvri Mine (9th of September Mine) featuring dozens of sharp, well-formed, silvery-grey, metallic cubic crystals of Galena free of matrix. The crystals have a very slight skeletal growth in areas, but it's the fine three-dimensional quality of the piece that really stands out. It almost reminds me of an MC Escher painting. This piece is completely natural and hasn't been doctored or sandblasted in anyway to create the shape. I looked it over under the microscope, and it's completely legit. Good quality, very little damage, and it's almost a complete "floater" and it's crystallized nearly all the way around. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11773) - Please note that Kay's label mistakenly refers to this locality as the "19th September Mine", and she purchased the piece from Ben de Wit in Tucson of 1989. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
