Item Description

This is a rare piece of Germanite ore from the deep levels of the famed and now extinct Tsumeb Mine. This part of Namibia that includes Tsumeb and Grootfontein is noted for its incredible wealth of very rare elements and minerals containing germanium, among others. Germanite is a rare Cu-Fe-Ge sulfosalt and Tsumeb is the type locality. Striking rich patches of scintillating iridescent magenta and bronzy color add real pizzazz to this solid germanium ore specimen. Ex. R.D. Mushlitz collection and comes with a John Veevaert label, a prominent internet mineral dealer and great guy, who died tragically in a 2018 car accident. John bought much of Tsumeb book author, Dr. Georg Gebhard's, collection around 2003 and subsequently sold this piece to Mr. Mushlitz at that time. 54 grams. A true rarity.
