Item Description

A fantastic and unusual specimen from Erongo featuring a few thin hexagonal prisms of both colorless (Goshenite) and blue (Aquamarine) Beryl measuring up to 3.8 cm long flaring off a matrix of crystallized black Schorl. What makes the piece so special is that the Schorl crystals have formed in semi-radial "bursts" (they almost remind me of little blowfish), but there is no visible point of attachment, so the entire piece is a complete "floater", unlike anything I've seen from the region. The Beryl crystals all appear to be damage free to the naked eye, but one of them was contacted and recrystallized ("re-healed"), so it's not damaged. The Beryls are translucent when backlit, and the combination of the colorless prisms with blue "caps" is very eye-catching. Valued at $1,500. From the Collection of Shields Flynn.
