Item Description

The Jeffrey Quarry has produced some of the most distinctive and magnificent quality Garnet crystals extant. These "Cinnamon" Grossulars from Jeffrey are known for their unique orange color, gemminess, top luster and superb "textbook" form. This specimen features dozens of superb quality, sharp, lustrous, orange to pastel peach color, GEM/gemmy, crystal of Grossular measuring up to 8 mm across on host rock matrix. The crystals show a beautiful combination of trapezohedral and dodecahedral faces. Virtually every crystal is damage free and looks beautiful up close with the supreme gemminess / clarity, and beautiful thin striations on each face. This locality is now completely defunct, but even when it was operating, it was rather difficult to get your hands on cabinet sized specimens of this material. In today's market, you'd be hard-pressed to find many of these beautiful Grossular specimens in this size. Don't miss out on this Canadian classic. This specimen comes from the collection of our own Alex Venzke (#43.18), member of the leadership team of the Young Mineral Collectors group, a member of the mindat.org management team, a board member for the national Friends of Mineralogy organization, a board member for the Mineralogical Society of the District of Columbia, and co-founder and current Vice President of the Friends of Mineralogy Virginia Chapter.
