Item Description

Sharp grossular garnet crystal specimens are RARE from this extinct large underground and open pit W-Mo-Cu-Au-Ag-Bi mine in Inyo County. A sharp, highly lustrous, pretty brown 1.8 cm dodecahedron dominates this showy miniature and is nicely accented with smaller garnets in the contrasting quartz-rich skarn matrix. The internal layering adds a dramatic quality to the garnets. The large grossular is lightly bruised and partially contacted on the right side, but has minimal impact to the overall excellence of this rarity. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. A RARE and choice grossular garnet specimen from the locale, better known for outstanding Laumontite specimens (a Zeolite Group species).
