Item Description

Grossular garnet is VERY RARE from the famous Carbonate Replacement skarn deposits at Naica. MINDAT lists grossular for Naica, but there are NO examples in the 962 specimen photos in the MINDAT Photo Gallery for the locale. The impressive large mounded matrix plate is richly covered with sharp, lustrous, partially translucent, olive-green dodecahedrons to 2.1 cm across and contrasting glassy, frosted, colorless calcite rhombs, to 2.6 cm. The underlying matrix contains quartz, sphalerite, galena and a RARE, nifty single 7 mm spray of green Actinolite needles! Rare, perhaps UNIQUE large grossular garnet combination material from Naica. We showed the specimen to a knowledgeable Mexico collector, who confirmed the attribution. Value of such a rarity??
