Gypsum ("Desert Rose")

A fantastic example from the Sahara Desert. Here we have a beautiful "desert rose" specimen featuring a group of very sharp, compressed tabular crystals of Gypsum forming the classic "rose" shape. The color is due to included tan colored sand particles. The piece is in excellent shape overall, as it is complete on both sides with no major damage. I actually purchased this piece in a small parcel directly from the man who mined it in Algeria who was able to give me a more specific locality than "Sahara Desert", which is what we typically seen labeled on these pieces. It should be noted that the piece was glued to its base by this man, and despite our efforts, it doesn't want to come off. Priced in our inventory at $750.
