Item Description

A really cool, fine quality and incredibly hard to find specimen of Gypsum from the Salt Mine at Bex in the western mountains Switzerland near the border with France. The salt deposits at Bex were discovered in the 15th century, are still mined today. This piece features a sharp, well-formed, lustrous, GEM quality, colorless group of Gypsum crystals. The main crystal is doubly-terminated, but there are also many small secondary crystals flaring off the base of the piece, so it's a complete multi-terminated "floater" group. Really attractive in person. If you collect Gypsum specimens, minerals from Switzerland or just fine crystallized pieces, don't miss out on this one. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9541). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
