Halite on Trona (NEW FIND!)

There are not too many places in the world where fine crystallized specimens of Trona can be found. A good friend of ours found some really attractive pieces recently (the end of 2021) at Owens Lake in California. Trona is an uncommon evaporative carbonate species (the name is actually a Swedish term, but was derived from the Arabic world "natrum" meaning native salt). Some of the best known examples ever found are those from Owens Lake. This cabinet specimen features sharp, well-formed, gemmy, colorless, cubes of Halite measuring up to 8 mm on edge which are beautifully scattered over underlying sharp, lustrous, well-formed crystals of muted golden colored Trona matrix. No major damage so attractive up close! PLEASE NOTE: Trona and Halite are soluble in water, so do not expose this piece to moisture, and if you live in a humid environment, try to keep this closed off from moisture in a sealed bag/box.
