Item Description

Splendent parallel-growth, hexagonal black hematite blades make a wonderful and sculptural two-sided non-Alpine-type "Iron Rose" of hematite from Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil source of the striking golden rutile sprays epitaxial on hematite crystals. The blades have excellent, metallic silvery-grey faces forming the classic "rose" shape that makes these specimens so desirable. Scattered clusters of tiny tan muscovite plates and reddish-brown iron oxides on the individual plate edges really accentuate the crystal form of this fine piece. Novo Horizonte hematites are rare compared to similar specimens from Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, source of famed Imperial Topaz crystals. The excellent piece is complete all-around and is a small miniature or could be considered a very very large thumbnail (toenail) size. Modest edge wear in a few places is certainly only a minimal detraction to this uncommon classic Iron Rose. This is an excellent example and compares very favorably with the style of (more expensive!) European Alpine pieces.
