Item Description

Beautiful sky-blue Hemimorphite and Pyromorphite from the historic Roughton Gill Mine are signature and desirable English classics. Hemimorphite is much rarer, than Pyromorphite from here. Bright blue to lightly oxide tinted bubbly botryoids and underlying banded crusts are dramatically festooned on all sided of the extremely vuggy, mounded gossan matrix. Lead mining effectively ceased in Roughton Gill in 1876, with only a few specimens found since, so this is a real old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6508 and acquired from the Cisneros's at the 1971 MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). It comes with three century-plus old faded labels from Wenzel Fric in Prague. Specimens of this richness, size and quality are RARE and a seldom on the market. Valued at $1250-1500.
