Item Description

A beautiful specimen from the recent 2018 discovery at an undisclosed locality in Laos which produced only a limited number of these stellar Hemimorphites. The display side of this small cabinet specimen is loaded with gorgeous rich greenish-blue colored, GEMMY, botryoidal groups of Hemimorphite measuring up to 1.3 cm across sitting on a thin layer of Quartz matrix with brown (iron-stained) Hemimorphite "balls" on the underside. It very likely that the color is due to copper content, but most of the blue Hemimorphite you see from around the world is typically opaque or barely translucent. It is virtually impossible to get your hands on a specimen of Hemimorphite from any world locality with this color and excellent internal gemminess. I cannot find any damage anywhere on the piece outside of the edge where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. The luster is both sparkling and vitreous, giving the piece depth and character. With some backlighting, you can see the amazing glowing internal color and clarity, which somewhat reminds me of Smithsonite from the Kelly Mine or Willemite from Tsumeb. A fantastic, high quality specimen from this limited yet potentially world-class discovery. We had this one priced in our inventory at $5,000 for the impressive quality and gorgeous color.
