Hinsdalite (RARE from Butte)

This is something that is almost unseen from Butte, especially in such a rich example as this specimen. Dozens upon dozens of small, sharp, well-formed, rhombic crystals of deep golden colored Hinsdalite are covering prismatic Quartz crystals on this attractive small cabinet display specimen. The crystals are best seen under magnification to appreciate their quality, but you can view the piece on the shelf and see it's almost completely covered with Hinsdalite. This is the only specimen of this material that I think we've ever had to offer, and after a brief comparison search on a few databases, I feel safe in saying it's a top-tier example. If you collect Butte specimens, this is a really choice piece to round out your suite, you're not likely to find anything else like it out there.

Ex George Loud Collection No. 6947; 43.1.1.3 MT.1. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
