Item Description

Adorable crystallized gold on matrix from Colorado's famous Dixie Mine. The rich yellow gold is very aesthetically set atop the sculptural matrix. An elegant and architectural 2.0 cm wide arborescent cluster of spinel-twinned gold crystals with modified octahedrons highlights the right side of the piece. The impressive sculptural larger gold cluster on the left is composed arborescent spinel-twins, modified octahedrons and leaf gold. The mine was intermittently work from 1936 into the 1970s. Gold specimens from here are rarely on the market and this is an exceptional, well-crystallized matrix (a large miniature) with beautiful crystallization. Mass is 46.7 grams. Highly desirable Colorado gold, with exquisite quality and display. This is from a small Colorado gold collection that gem dealer Ron Romanella purchased in the 1980s or earlier, and stashed away with his private mineral collection until now. Ron, although known for gems, started in minerals and actually was the mentor and early employer of both Dave Wilber and Herb Obodda. He kept a small personal collection of gold, gem crystals, and things he had obtained at sources over nearly 70 years in the trade (which we purchased recently).
