Item Description

An unusual specimen of Ilmenite in Serpentine which is labeled as coming from "Snarum, Norway". There is a listing for this locality on mindat.org, and Ilmenite is reported along with the Serpentine Group, so I'm confident it's legit. The piece features blocky, grey-black colored crystals of Ilmenite measuring up to 1.2 cm sitting on bright greenish-yellow Serpentine (possibly Lizardite?) matrix. Some of the Ilmenites are a bit crude, but there are a handful of good quality trigonal crystals with sharp, attractive, lustrous, well-defined faces. An incredibly hard to find specimen that would make a great addition to any collection of Norwegian minerals or worldwide oxides. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4304). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
