important Moroccan Smithsonite

This is a stunning smithsonite from a rare locality for the species, in Morocco, from historic finds in the 1980s. Three-dimensional spires up to 2.7cm tall of lustrous translucent multi-colored botryoidal Smithsonite on matrix give this a shape and form that is highly unusual. The piece exhibits an unusual color gradation from the basal clear botryoids followed by pale to golden yellow, yellow-orange and a final stage of shimmering orange-brown botryoids. There is some minor associated goethite (?) that can be seen on the tips. These may actually be stalactites that the Smithsonite has included during growth to this interesting vertical geometry. Further evidence of this phenomenon may also be along the front edge of the piece. There is some damage of note only really to the front left, however this also shows dark vertical lines in the center of the Smithsonite growth, that indicate they may have formed atop goethite. The majority of the Smithsonite is in good condition with only a couple of broken botryoids and some edge wear of little importance in context of this large display specimen. Smithsonite from this location is not a very common species. The luster and color variation combined with the "stalactite" growth make for a truly unique Smithsonite. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl. We have never seen anything of this style and quality beyond 4-6 cm size for sale, and it is truly an important example for smithsonite, for African minerals, etc. Valued ???
