Item Description

There is only one known locality for Kraisslite in the world, the Sterling Hill Mine in Franklin. This complex zinc, manganese, magnesium, iron, aluminum, arsenic silicate species contains The species was named after avid Franklin mineral collectors, Frederick and Alice Kraissl. This hefty cabinet sized specimen at first glance might just appear to be a piece of Franklin ore with the typical association of black Franklinite, pinkish-white Calcite, deep reddish Zincite of pink Willemite, but if you look closely, you will see small patches of platy, reddish-bronze-brown colored Kraisslite sprinkled all over the display side of the specimen. The piece is accompanied by a label from noted Franklin mineral dealers Ewald and Helen Gerstmann, that states it was found on the 1010 Stope of the 700 Level of the Sterling Hill Mine, and "very little of this type came out". It was valued at $30.00 (!) back in the day, which was a notably high price for a Franklin specimen. If you collect Franklin minerals, rare species, or minerals from the type locality, do not miss out on this impressive cabinet display specimen with a very specific locality designation.
