Kyanite

Item Description

For those of you that took mineralogy and petrology in college, there is a good chance you were struck by the beautiful sapphire-blue color associated with the metamorphic mineral, Kyanite. This Kyanite crystal is from the locality at Vitoria da Conquista in Bahia, Brazil. Vitoria da Conquista Kyanites are known for having have a unique color zoning within the crystals, where a stark blue "stripe" runs lengthwise through the center of the crystal. Backlighting these partially gemmy crystals shows just how dramatic and attractive this uncommon trait is. Formerly in the extensive collection of W & A Cook. Terminated fully, it presents well from the front and shows a rare gemminess.
