Item Description

A dramatic and rich large old-time adamite specimen from famed Mina Ojuela with a super provenance. The top and both sides of sculptural vuggy, layered sturdy boxwork gossan matrix are fantastically covered and filled with classic, gemmy, lustrous, translucent yellow-green adamite crystals with striking chisel terminations. The form and richness of this 3-sided piece is over the top. The piece was originally in the collection of William S. Vaux (1811-1882), a prominent wealthy Philadephian. "Vaux began collecting minerals about 1820, and through purchases built the finest collection of minerals ever assembled up to that time in the United States, sparing "neither time, labor nor money."" See the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive on Vaux at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=317. He bequeathed his collection to the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences after his death, so this is an outstanding old-timer. It could have been purchased at a later date with the endowment he left with the Academy. Neon-green fluorescence, as you would expect.
