Classic and formidable large matrix calcite from the historic Joplin Field of the Tri-State District. An impressive stout 9.7 x 6.1 x 5.3 cm hexagonal crystal with a nailhead termination is dramatically set on the large sculptural matrix. The translucent calcite has fine amber color and satin lustre faces. The top of the matrix is festooned with pearlescent, paste-pink, saddle-shaped dolomite rhombs and scattered rubyjack sphalerite crystals and crystal sections.The matrix base is totally covered with gemmy, near colorless, complex calcite rhombs, a fine bonus and accessory. The striking large calcite is complete all-around and is in very good shape. Yes, there is some contacting with embedded dolomite and sphalerite, but has minimal impact to the overall high quality of this artistic large combination.
