Item Description

Near the famous Sunnyside Mine of Colorado's San Juan Mts, this obscure extinct (1970s) Au-polymetallic mine is best known for fluorite. This impressive and rare large solid hummocky fluorite specimen is covered with typical for the locale, gemmy, very glassy, well-formed, gray-green cuboctahedrons with silky lustre faces on granular quartz matrix. Some of the compound crystals, to 3.2 cm, have dense stepped-growth faces, which adds character. These specimens were recovered by collectors in 1986 and 87. The sawed base improves the display quality and the interior is pristine. Bright LAVENDER fluorescence! Ex Ted Bartels Collection. Specimens of this size are RARE. A must for the Colorado or species collector and better in person. Hefty fluorite at 8.4 pounds or 3.8 kilos mass. valued $2500
