Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY type are Super Rare from the Santa Rosa Mts of Riverside County. MINDAT lists 14 species for the mountains, with NO photos in the locality Gallery. This impressive and rich large plate is covered with sharp highly lustrous, slightly translucent, striated honey-brown to orange-brown to cherry-red grossular garnets. The textbook, slightly modified dodecahedrons reach 2.8 cm. Sections of an unknown lustrous olive-green mineral (possibly epidote or hornblende) plus off-white feldspar are excellent contrasting accessories. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. Very rare, large grossular garnet plate with accessories from the locale. We believe that Bob self-collected these, as a number of smaller pieces were in the collection as well.
