Lazurite (large fine crystals)

When it comes to crystallized Lazurite, the finest quality and most well-known examples in the world are those from Afghanistan. These amazing specimens have been known for thousands of years, and the material is the blue part of the stone Lapis Lazuli. This attractive cabinet sized piece features several very sharp, notably well-formed, dodecahedrons of deep royal blue Lazurite which measuring up to a whopping 4.7 cm sitting on contrasting white marble matrix. Recently over the last several years, Lazurite was discredited as a valid mineral species, and was being classified as a sulfide-bearing variety of Hauyne. Thankfully in 2021, Lazurite has been reinstated, so we can now resume labeling all of our Lazurite specimens accurately. It is incredibly difficult to find large, attractive, isolated crystals such as this from any world locality, and without question the finest examples of Lazurite have been found at Ladjuar Medam. The piece is not repaired, and the Lazurite crystals on the display side are undamaged, though a couple of the smaller ones have a bit of negative growth where they were partially filled with marble matrix. For the size, the main crystal is notably sharp, which is important to note as most crystals from this locality end up rather distorted or "lumpy" when they get this size.
