Item Description

A beautiful and showy old-time specimen from the famous Tsumeb Mine featuring a group of sharp, well-preserved crystals of what used to be Azurite, which have pseudomorphed to velvety green Malachite aesthetically perched on off-white colored contrasting matrix. Based upon the style and the matrix, this is certainly older Tsumeb material, dating back circa 1950s-1960s. There are a few imperfections, but the piece is still in excellent shape overall. The pseudomorph group measures 3.3 cm at its widest dimension. There is a bit of micro orange-yellow colored crystals of an unknown species, along with olive-green Duftite(?) on the piece, but it's hard to identify, even under magnification. If you collect cabinet display specimen, secondary ore minerals, Tsumeb specimens or classic old pieces, do NOT pass this one up, as you may never have the chance to buy another one like it for a bargain price like this. The piece was priced at $6,500 in our inventory. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#113 TS), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
