Item Description

The Copper Queen Mine is not only one of the premier mines in Bisbee, it's one of the great US localities. It produced some of the most iconic Azurite and Malachite specimens in history, and fine specimens are highly regarded among dealers and collectors. Here we have a classic and showy display specimen of this well-known material from Bisbee, featuring a sharp, well-formed pseudomorph of beautiful dark green Malachite, that has replaced a "sword"-shaped Azurite crystal, sitting on a matrix of lighter mint-green colored Malachite. The main pseudomorph measures 2.7 cm long, and is undamaged, though there are other pseudomorphs on the piece which are contacted, as you can see from the video. The piece is rather eye-catching, and displays nicely. This particular material is iconic from Bisbee, and will go down as some of the most well-known Malachite/Azurite pseudomorphs from anywhere in the world.
Originally in the collection of Lee Hogg (1961-2016).
Ex George Loud Collection No. 16.1.6 AZ.26; 10,003. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
