Item Description
Specimens from the Apex Mine west of St. George, Utah are seldom seen on the market today. This piece is an odd example of Malachite which has formed in a notably thin shape. I've seen some people label these as "casts" after a preexisting mineral species, while others have seen that they are seam fillings that were "popped" out of the cracks in the rocks at the mine. If you look closely, you can see slight botryoidal / mammillary aggregate shapes, so it's not just massive Malachite. The beautiful green color combined with the highly irregular shape of the piece make it a unique and desirable novelty specimen that would fit wonderfully into a collection of secondary ore minerals or specimens from the southwestern United States.
