Malachite (two generations)

Item Description

Scintillating, emerald-green Malachite microcrystals decorate this sculptural plate of bubbly and banded Malachite botryoids. Very showy and excellent, this small cabinet piece is from the famous and extinct L'Etoile du Congo copper mine, and probably dates to the 1970s or 1980s when local artisanal miners intermittently worked the pit for specimens. The sparkly Malachite microcrystals represent the second generation of growth. They rest on and within a banded, first generation of botryoidal Malachite where the botryoids reach up to 1.8 cm across. This is an unusual combination, and the fine aesthetics make this large small cabinet piece even more desirable. Formerly in the extensive collection of W & A Cook.
