Mimetite

Here we have an old classic style of Mimetite from Tsumeb with yellow, divergent, sparkling sheaves of crystals bristling all over the matrix! It looks like a mimetite hedgehog. This attractive piece has slightly divergent crystal sprays of lustrous and translucent, rich golden-yellow Mimetite from 3 to 8 mm in length that just blanket the rounded substrate. The piece looks like a golden yellow hedgehog! The lustrous, scintillating Mimetite groups are tightly divergent everywhere! The crystals that flow along the length of the piece are tighter and thinner than those on either side (front and back) where they are slightly larger and a little more distinct. These are indistinguishable, divergent sprays where individual crystals in the groups are more distinct, have more of an orange tint to them and are transparent at the tips. There is no bruising to any of the crystals on the display face and only minor contacting around the periphery underneath and then at one end. An excellent example other than some of the crystals at the periphery, the crystals in the divergent sprays are nicely terminated. A great older style of Mimetite from this famous locality. Cabinet sized, big, pretty, and yellow....probably from the 1960s or before.
