Item Description

This is quite possibly the best piece of this particular association that we've had to offer in the auctions from Santa Eulalia. The Potosi Mine is well-known for producing beautiful yellow to golden-brown colored Mimetites which typically are found in semi-botryoidal to prismatic crystal forms. Often you won't see any other minerals associated with the Mimetite from this locality, but this piece is a highly desirable combo specimen featuring classic, attractive, golden-yellow to greenish-yellow colored "balls" of Mimetite associated with beautiful, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, GEMMY, bright lemon yellow tabular crystals of Wulfenite along with contrasting white rhombic crystals of Calcite on oxidized matrix. The largest Mimetite "ball" measures 5 mm across, while the largest Wulfenite blade measures 8 mm on edge. The Calcites were a bit harder to measure, but the largest dimension I could get is 1.1 cm. The piece has incredible balance, composition and displayability, and is about as photogenic as it gets. VERY little damage, the only real rough spots are forgivably on the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. You never see these pieces on the market these days, and to have such a showy and fine quality display specimen is incredibly rare in my experience. The piece is from the collection of Claude H. Yoder of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I would easily put this one in the $5,000 range for a retail price based upon the superior form, arrangement and quality. If you collect Mexican minerals, secondary ore minerals, or simply attractive display pieces, don't miss out on this one.
