An exceptionally fine 1.9 cm doubly terminated mimetite crystal beautifully graces this rich and outstanding minature from the one-time find of 1998 in Thailand at the abandoned open pit tin mine. Lustrous, translucent, honey-yellow, hexagonal mimetite barrels cover the weathered granite matrix. These are spectacular mimetites by any standard and were generally unappreciated at the time. Matrix crystals of this size and form only reached 2.0 cm, according to the 2017 Mineralogical Record article on the locale in Vol. 48, No. 6. Detached hoppered crystals reached 2.5 and were more common, but elongated single crystals like this were one in 1000. A superbly constructed miniature with a RARE, important, very large mimetite crystal. Scarce now, they were never common to begin with and no more have come out since. These are among the finest mimetites from anywhere and are seldom available today.
