Monazite (fine crystal)

Item Description

A very good quality, large, and hard to find crystal of dark reddish-brown Monazite from the Ampangabé Pegmatite in Madagascar. The crystal shows sharp, well-formed, lustrous faces, which is rare for this material as the crystals can often be dull and rounded. The crystal is complete on the front and back, but there are few rough spots here and there, so it's not 100% damage-free. Monazite crystals are rarely 2 cm like this, especially with fine crystallization. This piece would make a wonderful addition to any thumbnail suite, a pegmatite mineral collection or a suite of minerals from Madgascar. I would put a value on this one in the $500-$700 range for the size, color and quality.
