I would guess that most gem collectors do not have a Cat's Eye Opal in their collections. There are hundreds if not thousands of localities for Opal around the world, but stones like this are almost impossible to find. This gem has an unusual color for Opal, as we typically don't see yellow gems like this, but what makes it so special is the fact that it displays a SUPERB cat's eye, which is remarkably rare for the material. The combination of the rare color and the cat's eye effect make this stone a must own for any rare gem collector. The stone has an "oval cabochon" cut, and the "eye" is oriented beautifully so it runs perfectly along the length of the gem. Additionally, the "eye" is incredibly bright, sharp and distinct to boot. I was legitimately surprised that this was in fact an Opal. I can only remember seeing a few others in my life, and this is certainly the first one we've had to offer from Tanzania.
