Item Description

In the early 2000s there were some significant finds of Prehnite coming out of the Kayes Region of Mali. We purchased a few parcels of specimens, some of which contained some lousy specimens. The nature of the material was such that it actually was an ideal candidate for lapidary use, so we decided to have particular piece carved. It's imporant to realize that a slab of gemmy Prehnite this size is typically not found in nature. This piece is a lovely small cabinet beautiful soft green colored Prehnite (with is partially included with dark greenish-brown Epidote) which was hand-carved into a motif of dolphins at play in the water. You can see three individual dolphins surrounding a ball at the center of the specimen. The reverse side of the piece was carved into the shape of a lotus flower, making the piece displayable from either side. The wonderful gemminess, fine quality detail and polish make it a very attractive overall specimen for anybody who loves carvings. It would also make a great gift for a loved one who might be interested in minerals or lapidary material, or a perfect piece to put in your display case. Specimen weight is 210.87 grams. Valued at $1,200.
