Prehnite (great quality - new find)

Item Description

This piece comes from the recent discovery (2019) in the famed Merelani Hills of Tanzania - home of the renowned Tanzanite crystals. These specimens have a notably different habit than we're used to seeing for Prehnites from this area. I'm sure a lot of people are familiar with the yellow colored "balls" of Prehnite that have come out of this area for a while, or even the newer blue bladed crystals of Prehnite, but the pieces from this latest find are much more blocky and distinct with well-separated fine quality crystals. The color in this particular specimen is a lovely yellowish-green and the crystals are rather gemmy with sharp, lustrous faces and an almost "broadsword"-shaped habit. I really like how there is a bit of room between each crystal, so you can examine them up close. A handful of bruises prevent the piece from being 100% damage free, but it's a showy, good sized specimen and features a new style for Prehnite from this important gem producing district. The underside of the specimen features a thin layer of metallic grey Graphite, and I can see a tiny bit of attached purple Tanzanite. Good quality overall, and a must have for anybody who collects Tanzanian material or worldwide Prehnites.
