Item Description

This is a gorgeous, glass-like spray of lustrous transparent bright red crystals of the silver species proustite. It is perhaps gemmier and brighter and more sparkling than any other single thumbnail I can recall, but it is the overall shape that contributes to make it iconic. Most superb proustite thumbnail specimens are simply singles or a cluster with messy edges. This, on the other hand, is a balanced cluster with more space-filling aesthetics. This is a world class, gorgeous specimen of the species. (Note : Proustite can be stable for over a century and more, but needs to be kept protected from light or it darkens over time, although this can be reversed by a quick chemistry trick as well.). Alex purchased this directly when it came out of Morocco from the importer, Tom Praszkier, and valued this at $3500-plus.
