Purple Fluorapatite (fluorescent)

Quality Fluorapatite specimens are always coveted, but none more so than those whose lavendar/purple colors leap out at the collector, as they are so rare. Such crystals like this bring to mind the great Pulsifer Apatites found in Maine over 50 years ago - but there are simply too few of those for all of us who want one, and so any new purple apatite locality is greeted highly! From the famous pegmatites at Pech, this dense cluster has well-formed, prismatic crystals to 1.2 cm wide, a silky luster, and a lovely, saturated lavendar color with a deeper, purple rind. The yellow fluorescence is strong, particularly along the terminations. As expected from pegmatite mining, there is a little bit of wear at the edges, but it detracts not at all from the aesthetics of this choice miniature for the species.
