Item Description

A large, eye-catching display specimen of this iconic material featuring, sharp, metallic, soft golden color cubic crystals of Pyrite measuring up to 3.6 cm, sitting on gemmy, prismatic, colorless Quartz crystals from the famous Spruce Claim in King County, Washington. This well-known locality has produced some of the most iconic Pyrite specimens from North America, and it's fairly rare to find pieces this size on the market. The main crystal is in great shape, but some of the smaller Pyrites along with some Quartz crystals are contacted, but it's forgivable considering the overall size of the pieces. The faces of the Pyrite crystals are smooth and well-formed. The piece presents quite nicely and this is certainly a hefty and impressive example of this classic and sought after material.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 0718; 2911 WA.3. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
